Common questions

How accurate are the estimates?

Estimates use 2026 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule rates across all 109 localities, plus your custom uploaded contracts if you provide them. For commercial payers without uploaded contracts, we use published industry averages. Accuracy improves the more contracts you upload.

Do I need to upload my contracted rates?

No — DermEstimator works out of the box with Medicare rates. But uploading your fee schedules takes 5 minutes and dramatically improves accuracy for commercial payers.

Is the Good Faith Estimate No Surprises Act compliant?

Yes. The generated PDF includes all required elements: itemized procedures, expected charges, total estimated cost, disclaimers, and the patient dispute resolution notice.

What if a CPT code I need isn't in your database?

Email founder@dermestimator.com and I'll add it within 24 hours. The database covers all common dermatology codes today.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel anytime directly from your account settings. No long-term contract, no cancellation fees.

What happens after the 7-day trial?

At the end of your 7-day trial, add a payment method to continue. You won't be charged anything during the trial.

How does the AI coding assistant work?

Type a billing question in plain English — like “what code for a shave biopsy on the back, sent to path” — and the assistant searches DermEstimator's own dermatology fee schedule for matching codes first, then explains only those matches. It never answers from general AI knowledge, so it can't invent a code that isn't in our database. Available on Derm Pro.

Is my patient data used to train the AI?

No. The assistant is designed to be used with de-identified procedure descriptions — describe the procedure (site, size, type), not the patient. It will prompt staff not to paste real chart notes or patient-identifying details.

Does the AI auto-bill or auto-submit codes?

No. The AI only suggests and explains codes — it never adds a code to an estimate or claim automatically. A staff member always reviews the suggestion, confirms the AMA descriptor matches, and adds it manually. Think of it as a faster reference lookup, not a replacement for a coder's judgment.

Is patient data HIPAA-compliant and encrypted?

Yes. DermEstimator uses HIPAA-aware architecture with encryption at rest and in transit. Single-session security prevents credential sharing. See our HIPAA & Security page for full details on our security posture, access controls, and audit logging.

Can I integrate with ModMed, Nextech, or EMA?

Not yet — DermEstimator runs as a standalone tool alongside your EHR today. Direct EHR integration is on the roadmap for late 2027. In the meantime, most practices run DermEstimator in a browser tab next to their EHR — patients get the estimate in 30 seconds without any workflow disruption.
